aux keeps almost everything on your Mac. Here's every bit that leaves it, and why.

The waitlist

We keep your email, which form you used and when, plus a scrambled (hashed) version of your internet address so one person can't flood the list. We use your email only to tell you about aux, like when the beta opens. Reply to any email from us to be taken off the list.

In the app

Your settings, pets, hats and pet names stay on your Mac. There are no ads and no analytics, and your data is never sold.

Lyrics and album covers

To find them, aux sends the song's title and artist to LRCLIB (lyrics), to NetEase Cloud Music (lyrics LRCLIB doesn't have; a service based in China) and, for Apple Music, to Apple's iTunes Search (covers). aux also asks them about the song coming up next in Spotify, so its lyrics are ready. On Windows, while you have friends and share your listening, the title, artist and album also go to ListenBrainz's open music data, to find the song's Spotify link so friends can listen along. Nothing else about you goes with it.

Discord status

Off until you switch it on. When it's on, your Discord profile shows the song you're playing and a badge of your favorite pet, to anyone who can see your profile on Discord. The badge image comes from this website.

Friends

Only if you add friends. Then aux's friends server keeps:

your friend code and a scrambled key that proves it's yours
the codes you've added
while you're sharing: your name, your pet and its hat, and what you're playing

Only people you've added who've added you back can see it. Stop sharing and it's cleared.

Crash reports and logs

Only when you say yes. If aux closes unexpectedly, it asks next time whether to send the crash report; "Send logs" in Settings sends one when you press it. A report holds what went wrong, aux's own log (what it did lately, which names songs you played and friends you listened with), your note if you wrote one, your system version and aux's build, plus a scrambled version of your internet address so one person can't flood us. It's used only to fix aux.

Updates

Test builds check this website every few hours for a newer build. Nothing about you goes with it, and nothing downloads until you press the button.
