aux vs. Overwolf's Spotify overlays
Overwolf is a Windows platform for in-game add-ons, and its music apps, such as Musme, show Spotify over the games Overwolf supports. They connect through Spotify's web API, so play, pause and skip need Spotify Premium. aux needs no Overwolf and no Premium: it's its own app on Windows and Mac, works over every game, and follows Spotify or Apple Music.

Why the Premium difference?
Spotify's web API, which Overwolf apps use, only lets apps control playback for Premium accounts. aux doesn't use the web API: it talks to the Spotify app on your computer, the way your media keys do, so any account works and there's nothing to sign in to.
Platform vs. one app
Overwolf runs in the background for all its add-ons, and its apps live inside it. aux is a single native app built only for music over games, with a budget of under 30 MB of memory on Windows. It doesn't load anything into games, so it doesn't depend on a list of supported titles.
When Overwolf makes sense
If you already use Overwolf for game stats or builds and only play supported games with Spotify Premium, an Overwolf music app keeps everything in one place. Otherwise aux does more with less.
Questions
Is there a Spotify overlay without Overwolf?
Yes: aux runs on its own on Windows and Mac, and Xbox Game Bar has a Spotify widget on Windows.
Does aux work in League of Legends and Valorant?
aux floats over any game window without loading into it. For the most reliable result, run the game in borderless or windowed fullscreen.
Your next match needs a soundtrack.
aux is free for Mac during the beta, with Windows in testing. Leave your email and we'll tell you the moment it opens.
